On 5th December 2024, GUBA Foundation was delighted to participate in the Bexley SENCO Forum, a vital event dedicated to supporting Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOs) as they tackle the growing number of school referrals. This dynamic gathering was not only insightful but also a catalyst for meaningful change within the education and SEND community.
At the heart of the forum was Bexley Voice, a remarkable platform that empowers families and professionals alike to connect, share insights, and advocate for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). It is a community where every voice matters and real change is inspired.
We had the privilege of sharing the impactful work of the GUBA Foundation at the forum, focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities within African and Asian ethnic minority communities in the UK. Nana Adwoa, SENCO presented about the Foundation’s work centered on three key areas:
Tackling Stigma: Breaking down barriers and empowering parents to navigate SEND challenges with confidence.
Cultural Awareness: Raising awareness about the importance of culturally sensitive approaches to education and support.
Building Support Systems: Creating sustainable networks that uplift and empower communities for the long term.
Every interaction and shared story during the forum reinforced the power of collaboration in building an inclusive and supportive environment for every child. Together, we can break down stigma, embrace diversity, and create a future where all children are valued and given the tools they need to thrive.
