GUBA Foundation Leads Week-Long Autism Awareness Talks Across Kumasi Churches and Hospitals

In August 2025, the GUBA Foundation in collaboration with KGL Foundation, held a week-long “Autism I’m Not a Stigma” Autism Awareness Talk in Kumasi, reaching churches, hospitals, and women’s groups between 24th and 28th August. The campaign aimed to educate communities, break down misconceptions, and encourage acceptance for individuals on the autism spectrum.

The programme began on Sunday at the Church of Pentecost, where congregants were reminded that autism is not a curse but a condition requiring understanding and love. On Monday at the Baptist Medical Center, healthcare workers and families learned about early detection and support systems, while Tuesday’s session at Nkawie-Toase Government Hospital stressed the importance of collaboration between parents and medical staff.

On Wednesday, the team met with the Women’s Fellowship at the Church of Pentecost and later at the Methodist Hospital Antenatal Unit, engaging mothers and expectant women on caregiving and early childhood development. The series concluded on Thursday at Suntreso Government Hospital, where caregivers and professionals discussed the need for continuous awareness to reduce stigma.

Across all venues, participants responded with openness and commitment, reinforcing the message that children with autism deserve inclusion and dignity. The campaign marked another milestone in the Foundation’s mission to challenge stigma and build communities of support across Ghana.
