Chatterbox Champions – Episode 1 (Mind Matters: Conversations for the Community)

The first episode of our Chatterbox Champions podcast is live!

As part of our aim to raise awareness on neurodiversity within ethnic minority groups, we are launching the Chatterbox Champions podcast this May (Mental Health Awareness Month) to have key conversations surrounding neurodiversity and mental health – as part of our ‘Autism I am Not a Stigma’ project.

The first episode of our podcast features three women professionals who are excelling in the health field bringing in diverse and years of experience of creating lasting impact especially within ethnic minority groups in the persons of Dr. Pamela Nkyi (Psychologist), Onajite Clarke (Neurodiverse Counsellor), Akosua Boadiwaa Aboagye (Physician Associate) to speak on the topic, ‘Mind Matters: Conversations for the Community’ hosted by Gertrude Asumadu, Project Coordinator, Autism I am Not a Stigma Project.

The conversation which lasted for about an hour and 30 minutes was a deep dive into the perception of mental health within ethnic minority groups, the stigma attached to it and the role culture, fear and silence, religion and the wider society plays in contributing to mental health.

Our guests proffered long lasting solutions on how community groups, families, religious institutions could spearhead mental health conversations and provide the right support to their members to aid in normalising mental health conversations in our community. It was an impactful and insightful conversation.
