Mental Health Awareness Webinar with LaToya Tekoa

On the 22nd May 2025, 7pm (UK time) LaToya Tekoa, Founder of Behaviourgenics and Mental Health expert was our guest speaker for our webinar on mental health awareness dubbed, ‘How to recognize signs of mental illness in children’ as part of Mental Health Awareness month celebration.

During her presentation, she walked participants through common mental health illnesses in children and what each entails – symptoms which could be overlooked by parents and carers including Depression, ADHD, OCD, anxiety among others.

The webinar which lasted for an hour was an interactive one with 23 participants who asked thought provoking questions on support available for people who may be suffering some of these mental illnesses. One of the key elements of the webinar was some of the common misconceptions of mental illness in children which if unchecked could have a negative impact on the child’s development.

At the end of the webinar, hosted by Gertrude Asumadu, Project Coordinator of the ‘Autism I am Not a Stigma’ project by the GUBA Foundation, LaToya shared insights on how parents and carers can be equipped to provide the necessary support for their children through raising awareness, parents being open to having difficult conversations and parents viewing mental health as an essential part of a child’s overall health.
