Our commitment to autism awareness and support continues, made possible through the generous support of the King Charles III Charitable Fund’s Small Grant. This funding empowers the GUBA Foundation to expand its impactful efforts, equipping communities with the tools and knowledge needed to foster inclusivity for autistic individuals and break down stigmas.
As part of our ‘Autism: I Am Not a Stigma’ initiative, we colloborated with Nissi Life Church, London to deliver two transformative events:
7th February: Training for Sunday School teachers and volunteers.
9th February: An in-person workshop for the congregation on autims awareness in workship places.
These sessions brought together a diverse group of participants united by a shared commitment to creating inclusive environments for children in their care. The training focused on two key areas:
Understanding Autism: Exploring the unique challenges faced by autistic children while emphasizing empathy, understanding, and perspective-taking.
Practical Strategies: Providing actionable techniques, such as tailored communication methods, sensory-friendly practices, and structured routines to enhance learning and engagement.
Interactive discussions enriched the experience, with participants sharing insights and best practices, creating a collaborative and supportive learning environment. Feedback highlighted the practical applications of these strategies and the value of the resources provided.
This initiative went beyond skill-building it fostered a culture of acceptance and understanding within the church community. The overwhelmingly positive response reinforced the importance of raising awareness in underrepresented spaces, where education and collaboration can drive meaningful change.
Key Outcomes:
- Honest and open discussions about neurodivergence, autism diagnoses, and resources for autistic children, including non-verbal individuals.
- Excitement for future projects, such as hosting an in-person Makaton training session.
Together, we are breaking barriers, championing inclusivity, and creating compassionate communities where every child can thrive.
