We started the new year strong at GUBA Foundation with our first webinar of 2025 ; an interactive Virtual Makaton Training led by Lydia Lings, CEO of SEND Support and a qualified Makaton tutor.
This invaluable session was designed to support parents and carers of autistic children who are non-verbal or have communication challenges, as part of our ongoing “Autism: I Am Not a Stigma” initiative.
Held on 25th January, the session brought together parents, teachers, and professionals within the Special Educational Needs (SEN) field. Lydia shared practical strategies to help children express essential needs, whether it’s saying hello, requesting food, using the washroom, or asking questions.
The training wasn’t just about learning signs; it was a hands-on, interactive experience where attendees could ask questions and address common misconceptions about Makaton’s effectiveness.
Lasting 90 minutes, the session ended on a high note, with attendees walking away feeling empowered and ready to apply these techniques at home and in schools. The enthusiasm and engagement throughout the session underscored the growing need for accessible communication tools for autistic children.
At GUBA Foundation, we are committed to breaking barriers and providing meaningful support for families and educators.
