The Autism Awareness & Acceptance (AAA) Exhibition proudly featured the remarkable 11-year-old artist, Ama Antwiwaa Amponsah, celebrating exceptional talent and promoting autism awareness. Held at The Tabernacle Art Gallery in London, from April 9th with an exclusive private view to April 13th for the public opening, this exhibition shone a spotlight on visual artists, especially those on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The AAA event welcomed esteemed guests, including Danny Sapani, Lord Paul Boateng, HE Dr. Fatou – High Commissioner of Gambia, Hugh Quarshie, Hon HE Bell Ribeiro Addy, Chris Hughton, and many others.
Ama’s captivating selection of works delves into her passion for portraiture, where subjects take center stage in her evocative paintings. Seamlessly blending drawing, painting, and collage, Ama intricately weaves together encounters, observations, and flights of imagination. Her portraits draw us in with their simplicity, yet resonate deeply through the intricate layers of cardboard and other materials, lending a striking 3D effect to her pieces. Ama’s bold exploration of color, tone, and mark-making, incorporating various patterns and words, creates a vibrant tapestry of contrasts within her art.
The GUBA Foundation stands firmly behind the creative endeavors of neuro-diverse individuals, providing a vital platform for communication and self-expression. By challenging stereotypes and dismantling the stigma surrounding autism within Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities, we strive for a more inclusive and understanding society. Through AAA exhibitions, our aim is to reshape perceptions and pave the way for a world that embraces neuro-diversity, nurturing a supportive environment where individuals with autism can thrive and shine.
